Sathee, CD Review >>
The Turkish-born and Montreal based Dede is a musician/producer/DJ combining electronica with warm analog and traditional instrumentation to create a moody, trance-like recording. Su is an amalgation of Middle Eastern, North African, Indian and new age rhythms. The recording features Sheema Mukherjee (sitar) and Susheela Ramen (vocals) on a couple of the tracks, among other guest musicians adding their personal flavors. The mostly instrumental recording sets the moods right from the opening track. This could be belly dancing music or late night moody trance music for chilling after a long night of clubbing. This is fusion that generally works, because it is fused rtather than assembled. The good thing is that the songs are respectful of varied traditional music while infusing it into the electronic mishmash.
