Midwest Record Recap, CD Review >>
The funny thing about this set is that even though it's unmistakably Italian, it feels like a French cabaret collection. Loaded with plenty of people you probably never heard of, this is a wonderful sonic adventure in the reconstruction of indigenous Italian music in the aftermath of WW2. There are a few examples from the old days, but by and large, the acts represented are of recent vintage and seem to be doing the Italian version of our lounge revival. It's a fun, easy to like, laid back set that destresses you nicely and can be enjoyed easily at brunch, the ride home after a long day or at Starbucks on your headphones if you don't like what they are playing. Well done entry in this world series. 05/28/05
