The New Heroes, a PBS documentary series, hosted by Robert Redford, tells 12 dramatic stories of social entrepreneurs who bring innovative, empowering solutions to intractable social problems around the world. Courageous, compassionate and committed to transforming society, these brilliant men and women have turned their business skills into tools for change, development and hope. For them, profit is measured not in dollars and cents, but in lives transformed and in dignity restored.

"By supporting social entrepreneurs, we empower individuals to sow the seeds of positive change in their communities around the world. Their innovations are our best hope for a better world," says Jeff Skoll. The Skoll Foundation provided major underwriting for The New Heroes.

The premiere, hosted by Community Foundation Silicon Valley and the Skoll Foundation, takes place from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Monday, June 20 at the San Jose Repertory Theatre, 101 Paseo de San Antonio in Downtown San Jose. (Note: Paseo de San Antonio is a pedestrian plaza that runs between Second and Third Streets, just south of San Fernando.)

Speakers at the premiere include: Robert Redford, Host of The New Heroes; Jeff Skoll, Founder and Chairman, Skoll Foundation; Peter Hero, President, Community Foundation Silicon Valley; and Pat Mitchell, President and CEO, PBS. Michael Malone, producer of The New Heroes, will moderate a discussion with social entrepreneurs featured in the film following the screening.

A press briefing with Robert Redford, Jeff Skoll, Peter Hero, and Sally Osberg, President and CEO of the Skoll Foundation will take place at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, June 20 at the Silicon Valley Capital Club, which is on the 17th floor of the Knight Ridder Building, 50 West San Fernando Street, in Downtown San Jose.
