Smother, CD Review >>
Named and inspired from a four-part PBS documentary hosted by Robert Redford, “The New Heroes” is an inspiring look at the globe’s social entrepreneurs whether its folks who rescue brutalized and enslaved children in India, the introduction of a low-cost manual water pump in Kenya that doubled the yield of a small farm, Egyptian schools for the disabled, and a Bangladesh bank whose billion dollars worth of loans to millions of poor families required no collateral. As interesting as the documentary is, the soundtrack is just as fascinating. Hedge wore binaural microphones in his ears so that as he travels he can record things exactly as he hears them. The album is a merging between traditional folk-rock and worldbeat and truly is the perfect soundtrack for such an illuminating series. 06/14/05 >> go there
