Turning in a spy for a record deal? Pretty bizarre huh? Well that's the story of rural musician Ion Petre Stoican. This album is the only release that resulted from him. When he noticed a suspicious character in '65 behaving weird he turned him into the secret police and as it turned out the man worked as a spy for a foreign secret service agency. The secret police asked what he would like as a reward and he replied that he wanted to make a record so they helped him accomplish just that. The music is Romania traditional music with beautiful violin play by Ion with dance songs made up of the circle-dance "hora" as well as the higher speed couple dance numbers in the fashion of "briu" and "sirba" as well as the wedding traditional dance the "geamparale". A break-through of an album that finally has made its way into the states thanks to the good folks at Asphalt-Tango Records.
