Sara Tavares' music has a warm and inviting sound. At the heart of that sound is the Acoustic nylon guitar. Her Portuguese upbringing reflects this as well as her use of Portuguese slang, Angolan slang and English in her lyrics (and in her everyday life). Her Cape Verdean heritage is what really drives her music though. Both her parents left her at a young age for a better economic life elsewhere. This is a fairly typical situation in Cape Verde.

Although her music a soft, gentle tone: From her fluid, syrupy voice to the various percussive instruments such as tambourine, triangle, vibratone, rain stick, clave and even metal objects, Sara's music message is strong. The title song "Balancé" speaks of the ying and yang of life and how one must seek out balance in life. It also means in music that "swings" in Portuguese and for Lusophone Africans it is a general term like "this food is balancé". With her African heritage also comes an appreciation for Afro-Beat and semba (an Angolan style) rhythms best put to effect in the song "Poka Terra".

Sara is on tour for support of her new album, so far with dates in a variety of European countries like Spain, Belgium and the U.K. However, you can her musical journey from the comforts of your own home any time with a purchase of the music.
