It's rare that a CD is so eminently accessible to fans of so many different styles of music, but Portuguese/Cape Verdean singer-songwriter Sara Tavares will certainly please a whole lot of people with her debut release Balance (pronounced bal-ahn-SAY). Fans of Cesaria Evora will enjoy the smooth and calm Cape Verdean rhythms that echo throughout Tavares's album. Fans of Manu Chao will enjoy Tavares's clever multilingual wordplay and thoughtful lyrics, as well as her light genre-skipping. Fans of Norah Jones will be thrilled at Tavares's sultry and warm, jazzy vocals. Oh, and did I mention that Tavares is stunningly beautiful and, from what I understand, charmingly funny?
