Lisbon-based singer Tavares mines her Portuguese and Cape Verdean roots to create a distinctive style all her own. With its gorgeous African chant harmonies, samba-esque polyrhythms and her lovely chiming voice, it isn't hard to understand why this 28-year-old is turning the world music scene on its head. Quite simply, this is such joyous, airy music that is truly does impart, as one song title reads, a "Bom Felling." The only confusion us grasping the lyrics, which are a mix of Cape Verdean creole and Lisbon slang. B+
