Kal
Kal (Asphalt Tango)
One of Belgrade's hottest bands is the Serbian Gypsy group called Kal. Language is no barrier to the beat as the band sings wailing Balkan blues over contemporary rock rhythms with an electronica edge. The mysterious melodies of the East meld easily with rock in their hands; ancient mixes with modern and old traditions are invigorated. Occasionally Kal's wild Gypsy jazz comes close to the sound of their Roma compatriot, guitarist Django Reinhardt and his Hot Club of Paris.
