Harmonia Mundi
The Arab lute called the oud, whose short resonating notes sound like a very deep mandolin, doesn쳌ft usually take center stage in music that reaches Western ears. It most often accompanies larger arrangements and provides occasional solos.
This disc, entirely made up of the interplay between three ouds, shows the dynamic beauty of the magnificent instrument in its classical tradition. The three Palestinian brothers who form Le Trio Joubran play original compositions that include call-and-response, intricate harmony and blistering dexterity. It쳌fs an album that fills wide spaces with grace, playfulness and mesmerizing talent.
