17-year-old trumpet prodigy Boban Markovic's fiery playing is a highlight of The Promise (Piranha/World Music Network), a showcase for his father Boban Markovic's Orkestar. The group takes the brass band sound, adds some gypsy touches and recasts it into a Balkans musical setting on such cuts as "Latino," "Papigko," "Voz" and "Obecanje." While these pieces are designed more for collective interplay than solo statement, Boban's energetic and
