Gypsy brass bands of the Balkan region ply a sound that falls somewhere between the raucous jolliness of the New Orleans brass band tradition, the yearning emotion of the mariachi tradition, and the rhythmically complex dance music indigenous to the Balkans. The latest release from Boban Markovic's Serbian orchestra features music that is complicated and mind-blowingly virtuosic, but easily accessible all the same. Very nice. (RA) 06/30/06 >> go there
