Eccodek is the project of Canadian musician/producer Andrew McPherson and in many ways, is the embodiment of the idea that world music can find common ground in blending geographical disparate styles. Based in Guelph, Ontario, McPherson pulls a wide range of global influences into the Eccodek's musical crock pot. The core of the music is sort of mellow ambient techno with different African, Asian, and dub influences and rhythms dropped on top. It is a decidedly mellow affair that delicately toes the line between hypnotic trances and new age yawns. Most of the time, it remains compelling, especially when McPherson brings the African singers and musicians (from Rwanda and Mali) together with echo-heavy dub production. 02/04/07 >> go there
