Montreal Gazette, Lura M'bem de fora Times Square/4Q Records/Fusion III >>
By: Charlie Fidelman
The sensual, caramel vocals of a young chanteuse, Lura, has much in common with another Cape Verdean singer, Cesaria Evora. But where Evora is marked by a listless melancholy and nostalgia, Lura is defiant and exuberant, full of fire and light, sweetness and pain. Although born in Lisbon, Lura sings in Cape Verdean creole, having adopted her ancestral culture in her teens. Lura's beautiful ballads - a fusion of African and Latin beats - have modernized the Cape Verdean sound. This disc hasn't left my CD player in weeks. 03/15/07
