VIEUX FARKA TOURE, Vieux Farka Toure (World Village): For all that he clearly learned from his late, lamented father, desert-blues progenitor Ali Farka Toure (last recorded tracks are included here), significant parts of Vieux Farka Toure's debut (in store Tuesday) resonate with echoes of Malian countryman Issa Bagayogo's not dissimilar mix of African folk and Western electronic music. Less dusky than his celebrated father's, Farka Toure's clean guitar leads roll in trance-like loops over undulating rhythms and instrumental beds of djembe, talking drum, calabash, ngoni, Huinean flute, njark (spike fiddle), saxophone, clavinet and guest Toumani Diabate's masterful kora. An ear-friendly addition to the growing catalogue of West African releases.
