Today's Global Hit features a Balkan brass band called "Slavic Soul Party." Slavic Soul Party offers a quintessential Balkan sound. But the band's nine members make their home in Brooklyn, New York.

Leader Matt Moran says the band's music is inspired by the small-town brass festivals that were once common in the former Yugoslavia. Moran heard about the festivals from immigrants in New York.

Slavic Soul Party hasn't just stayed in Brooklyn, though. The band has also performed in the former Yugoslavia. While there, Matt Moran says he had women come up to him to thank him.

He says they were happy he was bringing music -- and not bombs -- from America. Matt Moran also happens to be the drummer for Slavic Soul Party. He plays the bubanj.

It's a mobile drum set with bass drum, snare and cymbal. Slavic Soul Party's new CD is called "Teknochek Collision."

The group got the title from the name of an auto repair shop in Queens.

Music from Slavic Soul Party closes our show today.
