Slavic Soul Party (SSP) is a New York band, numbering members of various ethnic backgrounds, exploring the wild melancholy of Serbian brass band music. They are not, strictly speaking, tradition alists. On many tracks, the echo of jazz soloing melds

with Gypsy flights of fancy and rolling Balkan rhythms cross-connect with New Orleans marching-band funk. But the multiculturalism sounds organic, a natu ral outgrowth rather than an artificial grafting. As the band's name suggests, SSP is the music of an all-day, all-night party, rollicking yet within the bounds of timeless convention.
