Pharaoh's Daughter, Haran (Oy! Hoo) --By Aaron Howard
On its fifth and strongest album, Basya Schechter's band, Pharaoh's Daughter, establishes itself as one of the unique Jewish bands of today. It fuses Arabic, Turkish, and Sephardic musical beats with Hebrew, Aramaic and Ladino lyrics, Pharaoh's Daughter does more than simply re-create traditional music. The band intricately layers these influences and flavors them with tasty musical improvisations like some gourmet musical baklava. I'd stack Basya's band up against the most talented Israeli fusion musicians. An absolutely essential recording! 07/12/07
