This seven-person ensemble is led by vocalist Basya Schechter who hails from a Hasidic Jewish background. On “Haran” she and her band showcase a unique sound influenced by classic rock, Israeli and Turkish music, African rhythms and Yeshiva harmonies. She offers tunes that incorporate “nigun” (a wordless Jewish vocal form) with cabalistic poetry and homages to the sacred Sabbath.
