Urban Network, CD Review >>
Congo-born and Belgium-raised, Zap Mama leader Marie Daulne has led a globe-trotting life, going all out to present her unique brand of music with one foot firmly planted in tradition and the other constantly surveying the what's happening in the global pop arena. Since its 1990 inception, Zap Mama has morphed from a 5-woman group to Marie's singular vision. With Supermoon, she takes you on the most personal and intimate journey yet through the trials and triumphs that have brought her to this point in time. The music on this album is amazing – featuring special guests that include bassist MeShell NdegeOcello, guitarist David Gilmore and frequent collaborator Michael Franti of Spearhead. Highlights include the triumphant "1000 Ways," the moody afro jazz of "Go Boy" (about a runaway boy's perilous journey), "Toma Taboo" (a James Brown groove flipped and tongued down in French), a fun dance track called "Kwende" and the trance-inducing "Moonray." 08/23/07 >> go there
