The Zaire-born, Belgium-raised Marie Daulne formed Zap Mama, an all-female a cappella group, 17 years ago. With a unique vocal fusion of African, soul, pop and jazz, the ensemble members became world-music stars with a sound full of intriguing interplay. While rooted in the tribal vocal techniques of Daulne's Pygmy heritage, they were never boxed in by tradition and evolved into a more pop-oriented group, as "Supermoon" shows. It's multilingual, electronic and infectiously groove-centric. The Bay Area's 's Michael Franti guests on "Hey Brotha," a reggae ode to friendship, but it's the textural ambient pieces, such as "Go Boy" and "Affection," that best illuminate the lush vocal quality of Zap Mama, taking fans back to the singers' first album, "Adventures in Afropea." Zap Mama performs Aug. 30 at the Fillmore.
