As a griot, one's duty is to be an historian, advisor and story teller amongst other things. Descending from a long line of such important cultural monuments of West Africa history, Habib Koite, backed by his band, Bamada, takes the listener on a musical journey with tales ranging from Africa solidarity to parenting to lost love. On his first album in six years, Afriki, Habib's haunting vocals and guitar alongside Bamada's rich blend of Malian folk instruments make for a beatiful listening experiance not to be missed.
