Ticklah vs. Axelrod
Anyone can skank, but just because some dude's hacking major chords on the offbeat doesn't mean it's reggae. Just ask Ticklah. No stranger to the deep pocket, Ticklah (aka Victor Axelrod) has spent the greater part of his career pushing keys for Afro-funk crusaders Antibalas, and with and with production credits on Dub Side of the Moon, he's grown equally comfortable plumbing irie depths behind the mixing board. This time, though, he's in full control. In an existential battle with himself, it's Axelrod's work on drums, bass, guitar and a fleet of keyboards that become fodder for Ticklah's sonic incisors. Featuring a host of vocal and instrumental collaborators (including members of Antibalas), this conflict births a stream of rockers, Afro-Cuban tumbaos, and, of course, deep, airy dubscapes.
