You may have noticed that Las Tablas has hosting regular live music nights at their Lincoln Avenue restaurant.  This locally-owned restaurant showcases local Latin and Afro-Latin groups, like Angel d’ Cuba, Darwin Noguera’s Evolution Trio and Bossa Tres.  In fact, these groups are on the calendar for Las Tablas’s Thursday night programming (dates listed below).  In its description on its (new!) website, Las Tablas describes its desire to showcase both the diversity of Latin American and Caribbean music as well as the talented local musicians who give Chicago its musical diversity.  I think Las Tablas got it just right - let’s hear it for our fantastic local musicians and the great diversity of music and culture they perform.

Now, you may have also noticed that Las Tablas is also bringing us some excellent musical acts from out of town, paired with dinner specials.  This Saturday, in fact, the funky-smart-retro salsa band Bio Ritmo will be playing a special concert at Las Tablas.  Here are the details:

Las Tablas’s regular Thursday programming is free every week.  The first three Thursdays of the month are under the Raices title, which showcases different Latin American and Caribbean groups each week.

October 23rd - Bossa Tres

The last Thursday of the month is Tumbao Thursdays, featuring Angel d’ Cuba and Tiemblatierra, playing Afro-Cuban rumba.  (See my post on Rumba and then go hear it live.  It’s better live than blogged. :P)  This month, Tumbao Thursday will be a charity fundraiser, with donations supporting 100 Friends.  Awesome.
