New Outdoor Series Is A Collaboration Between Lincoln Center And Center For Traditional Music And Dance

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this season, The Center for Traditional Music and Dance (CTMD) has helped to introduce audience to vibrant ethnic music and dance traditions from around the globe for 40 years. With Heritage Sunday, CTMD will present an exhilarating program showcasing the music and dance traditions of Brazil, Haiti and Ivory Coast. The event will be presented in collaboration with Lincoln Center Out of Doors at 2pm at the Damrosch Park Bandshell on Sunday, August 17, 2008.

Also celebrating an anniversary of its own is Heritage Sunday at Lincoln Center Out of Doors, presented by CTMD. A pivotal component of the annual festival, the program has produced some of the most thrilling and memorable presentations featuring artists from world traditions as diverse as Dominican, Albanian, Indo-Caribbean, Soviet Jewish and West African.

The program will feature the dynamic ensembles of Ologundê, a dance company which showcases the music, dance and martial art traditions of Salvador, Bahia Bonga  The Vodou Drums of Haiti, an mystical group which traverses the plains, mountains and coasts of Haiti through music and dance and Kotchegna Dance Company, an ensemble which features stilt and masked dances from West Africa's Ivory Coast led by master dancer Vado Diomande.
