About.com, What is globalFEST World Music Festival >>

What is globalFEST?:
globalFEST is an annual indoor world music festival which presents a dozen or more artists on three stages in one night. globalFEST takes place in New York City every January, and highlights over a dozen world music artists who are generally not yet well-known in the United States. These days, globalFEST takes place at Webster Hall in New York City, and is co-presented by several of New York City's most prominent world music presenters.
globalFEST 2009 - Basic Info:
globalFEST 2009 will take place on January 11 at Webster Hall. Tickets range in price from $35-$40 and are available via Ticketmaster. The festivities will begin at 6:00 am, and will likely go into the wee hours of the morning to accommodate the 13 different artists and groups who will be performing. The festival is fully open to the public, though it does have a music industry angle as well.
The globalFEST and APAP Connection:
globalFEST always takes place during the annual conference of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP), and many of the artistic directors and talent buyers for venues around the world who attend the conference also attend the festival. What does this mean to you? It means that artists who perform at globalFEST are artists who are currently "unknown," but who you'll likely be hearing a lot about in the near future, and who will probably even be performing at a venue near you. Basically, because it caters both to the public and to arts presenters, globalFEST is a major tastemaker in the music scene.
