A one-night world music festival spins into town this Sunday at Webster Hall in the East Village. GlobalFEST 2009 will present 12 acts on three stages. You’ll find a tasting menu of a wide range of musical styles, from Calypso Rose—Queen of Trinidad and Tobago’s calypso style—to the Catalan rumba group La Troba Kung-Fú, from the Ghanese-American Occidental Brothers Dance Band to the trippy, French, electronica group Watcha Clan. One $40 ticket will get you into all the shows.

The recently renovated Webster Hall was built in 1886 and has an impeccable pedigree as the hippest venue in New York City. During the early 20th century, anarchist Emma Goldman and surrealist Marcel Duchamp were among the avant-gardists who staged outlandish costume balls there, earning Manhattan’s first nightclub the nickname “The Devil’s Playhouse.” GlobalFEST’s mongrel assortment of musics may well inspire a kind of costume ball of its own. Look out for downtowners and visitors alike dressed in their January finest.

Of course there’s nothing to match the real scene—the crowd and the live beat. But those on a tight budget can groove to the music at home by clicking into WNYC’s live webcast. Coverage of all three stages begins Sunday at 6 pm at WNYC.org and will be hosted by David Garland, Rob Weisberg and Banning Eyre, each from a different stage.

Here’s the night’s lineup at Webster Hall, 125 East 11th Street, between 3rd & 4th Avenue:

Grand Ballroom: Hot 8 Brass Band (7:00-7:45); La Troba Kung Fu (8:05-8:50); Kailash Kher's Kailasa (9:10-9:55); Brooklyn Qawwali Party  (10:25-11:10)

Marlin Room: Shanbehzadeh (7:20-8:10); L&O (8:30-9:20); Marcio Local (9:40-10:10:30); Calypso Rose (10:50-11:40)

Studio: Occidental Brothers (7:10-8:10); Tanya Tagaq (8:30-9:30); Chicha Libre (9:50-10:50); Watcha Clan (11:10-12:10)
