The Occidental Brothers Dance Band International was founded by a guitarist who grew up in the Midwest listening to Sonic Youth and John Coltrane. When Nathaniel Braddock heard the "Afropop" radio program, it opened up his world. He and the four members of his band play traditional central and west African dance music mixed with jazz and rock. The band will have played at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., for three days before performing here, and after Portland will be at the globalFEST in New York.
