Admit it: you love mariachi music. Those violins, those trumpets, those soaring melodies, those sometimes startlingly complex rhythms -- they're irresistible. And the ensemble Mariachi Real de San Diego are out to restore some of the music's forgotten repertoire, which its members have dug out during the course of research in Tijuana, California, and Texas. The playing on Mariachi Classics is great, as is the singing -- but I wish there were just a little bit less reverb; this music doesn't need any extra sweetening.
