I dunno if I have recovered or the ecstatic crowd at the sold out Independant have recovered yet from the American debut gig of Fat Freddy's Drop last night. They tore the roof off the sucka, better live than their excellent albums. Hard to describe their music--comes out of dub, no live drummer, guitar doubles on bass but much of the bass line and bottom end comes from a sound board. Three horns hitting lovely low power chords, single vocalist and a rapper, in addition to a DJ producing varioius effects. Massive sound. Fat Freddy is playing LA, I think San Diego, possibly Portland, and then goes on to Europe. This is a must see act, one of the best gigs I've attended this year. Extremely funky. 12/04/09 >> go there
