San Francisco Chronicle, Concert Pick >>
Freestyle summer
It's summer, so there are plenty of offerings in the free category. First up is the San Francisco Symphony's 2 p.m. Sunday concert at Stern Grove, featuring music by Copland, Gershwin and Beethoven.
Also worth packing a picnic lunch for is the Jewish Music Festival, which marks its 25th anniversary Sunday at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco. The festival is going for eclecticism. There will be Sephardic salsa and Southeast Asian-Jewish stand-up, rock music inspired by Babylonian inscriptions and an instrument petting zoo, instant choruses and klezmer jams. The festival also is presenting the insanely hip global electronica phenomenon Watcha Clan at 8 p.m. July 18 at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Led by the enthralling singer-dancer Sista K, Watcha's sound brings hard-hitting beats to North African, Sephardic, French and just about every other Mediterranean groove imaginable. 07/07/10 >> go there
