Reggae and mbira at Future Studios

  Future Studios presents Tuscon's hottest reggae group Louie-Virie Blanche and Constant Creation on Friday, Aug.15.
  On Tuesday, Aug. 19, "her majesty," Stella Rimbiasai Chiweshe, Zimbabwe's queen of mbira music, will perform for Sedona in her only Arizona appearance this year.
  Chiweshe will conduct an African dance workshop for children and young adults on Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m.
  Blanche calls his lively, creative brand of reggae-fusion "Creole Rock." His soulful pop multitude of styles, including ancient and modern tribal folk music, rhythm and blues, poetic spoken word, acid jazz, as well as funk, rock and reggae.
  Constant Creation, a seven-piece band includes vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Andrea and percussionist James "Bird" Loveless specializing on marimba, steel drums and vibraphone.
  Chiweshe is Zimbabwe's foremost mbira player, who for over the past 30 years, has emerged as one of the most original artists in contemporary African music scene, according to a news release.
  Known at home as "Ambuya Chinyakare" (Grandmother of Traditional Music) and around the world as "the queen of mbira," her songs are resonant with the themes of liberation, spirituality and social justice.
  Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and both shows start at 8 p.m.
  Tickets for Louis Blanche and Constant Creation are $10 advance/$13 day of show. Tickets for Stella Chiweshe are $12 advance/$15 day of show. Reduced prices for youth 17 and under are available for both shows.
