The mbira is a set of iron keys fastened to a small wooden box and played with the thumbs (hence why it is sometimes called "thumb piano) and fingers. It looks deceptively simple, but in Zimbabwean singer Stella Chiweshe's hands, it makes the saddest music you've ever heard, even if you can't understand her lyrics.
