Paul Winter Consort
“Remembering”
Playing at: The Cathedral of St. John the Divine
(1047 Amsterdam Avenue, Morningside Heights)
Get: Tickets  ($35-80)| Directions

Saxophonist and bandleader Paul Winter has become known for excelling in a certain brand of spiritualized “world” music. It may not be your preferred flavor, but a blown-out Winter Solstice concert running tonight through Saturday in the sanctuary at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine is bound to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. There will be music played on the cathedral’s world-class organ. There will be a 28-foot aluminum installation covered in chimes. There will be a “Sun Gong” played from the top of the world’s largest Gothic cathedral. There will be singers and dancers and drummers. To get into the mood, download “Remembering,” a Paul Winter composition that sets the magical journey tone they’re going for tonight.
