Fifteen years ago, when the Onion still hadn’t quite gotten the hang of that whole “biting social satire schtick,” and was still sorta playing around with borderline surreal, they ran an article entitled “Blues Musician to U.N.: ‘Yemen Done Me Wrong.’” No, no, you’re not missing anything, that’s the whole joke. R&B and the mid-east. Laughter. Well, a decade and a half later, and hey, it, turns out they were on to something–Yemen Blues, a nine-piece fusion of traditional Yemini folk music and Mississippi-Delta bitchin’ comes to the Somerville Theatre, fronted by the Idan Raichel Project’s Ravid Kahalani. Huh. Yemen Blues. That’s … that’s a thing.
