It’s a dark and stormy night. The cabaret swirls smoke, euphoria, danger. A burlesque beauty sings a swooping, eerie song and suddenly sprouts a full beard. An itinerant tenor and a melancholic balloonist croon to apocalyptic waltzers. The drums ba-da-boom, the cellos duel, the gitarrón’s been drinking.

Vagabond Opera raises the dead with style at their fifth annual Halloween bash and release party for their fourth full length album Sing for Your Lives! The event – held in the stunningly restored Star Theater (Portland’s historic 1911 silent film and Burlesque venue) presents a stunning night of haunting music, dance, ritual and art. Whether you want to dance, party or pray this night is for you.

Featuring Russian party band Chervona, Belly dance by Rachel Brice, fire arts by Amy Hotfield and dance revue by the Dolly Pops. Also offering an interactive Day of the Dead altar, psychic tarot readings, mexican hot chocolate and more for a truly eclectic and spell binding evening. Costumes highly encouraged.

The bash is the band’s most special annual event and is more then just a party. “We create an experience that allows people the opportunity to also sincerely commune with the important spiritual aspects of the holiday” says saxophonist and songwriter Robin Jackson. “They can commune with their ancestors through art and also get down and dance.”

The theme of the new album ties into the event as it acknowledges the bittersweetness of a darkened world and the glimmer of hope, dance, celebration and love that always seem to get us through.
