To Do Sunday: We Jammin’

By Elise Knutsen 1/08 12:55pm

While your friends opted for exotic vacations this holiday season, you decided to stay stateside, spending days sitting by your humble uptown hearth (Classic Sixes, unite!) instead of lounging on a Caribbean beach. Since the deep winter freeze set in this week, your internal escapist metric has escalated expeditiously. Tonight, however, you can enjoy a beautiful cacophony of foreign sounds without leaving your comfort zone of Manhattan. It’s the annual globalFEST, and while your friends are stranded in dingy airport Hyatts, you’ll be listening to Yemeni jazz, Ethiopian funk, Italian trance and Malian folk-rap. Welcoming this apocalyptic year with global harmonies will momentarily assuage your anxieties about the coming rapture.

globalFEST 2012, Webster Hall, 125 East 11th Street, 7:00 to 12:00 p.m. Tickets, from $40, available at http://www.globalfest-ny.com/buy-tickets.
