Knowing that the indie rock–centric Tomorrow Never Knows fest is around the corner is helping to offset seasonal bummers like shorter days and dipping temps. Since Schubas spawned the event in 2005, the annual winter summit has grown into a multi-venue showcase, functioning as a musical barometer of sorts, portending what's suspected to blow up in the year ahead. The initial lineup for the 2013 edition—running January 16–20—is strong, relatively broad in scope and stylistically diverse, featuring rising artists like U.K. soulstress Jessie Ware and hometown contender Wild Belle in addition to return favorites like the Walkmen, who bring TNK to the Vic for the first time. If it's all too underground for you, fear not—there's plenty of commercial fare on the horizon: Maroon 5, Neon Trees and Owl City visit Allstate Arena April 6, while country crooner Jason Aldean teams up with Kelly Clarkson and others at Wrigley Field July 20.
