GIGI
Age: 27.
Three years ago, Gigi left her family's rural home in Ethiopia for San Francisco; this July, she released her Debut album, Gigi, a blend of contemporary jazz, pan-African rhythms and Western pop. "I thought it would be difficult to work with musicians who weren't Ethiopian," relates Gigi, who sings in her native Amharic tongue. "But it just happened--they're playing my heart."
