Gigi Grade: B+
Talk about good things coming in uninspiring packages. Caia is the pseudonym for Japanese down tempo chill-out master Maiku Takahashi and Groove Armada's Andy Cato, and the resulting debut album, "The Magic Dragon," is a breezy blast. Though some of the tunes here tend to generic jazz-funk, much of it ("Subway Feedom,""Jericho,"Afterwards@the Bar) has the sublime yet soulful sway of DJ Shadow. Even better, though, is Gigi's "Illuminated Audio," a remix disc of tracks from the stellar debut disc by Ethiopian singer Gigi. This time producer Bill Laswell has taken the songs and twisted them in new and unexpected ways. In fact, much of it is virtually unrecognizable from the original.
