New York-based non-profit organization Guitar Mash, which aims to “use live events and social media to unite [guitar] players online and off,” will be throwing itself an inaugural party on Sunday, November 11 at City Winery in New York City, and the community-minded concern has rounded up a healthy helping of rock and roll luminaries to help kick things off in style.

The Inaugural Guitar Mash Concert + Jam will bring together guitarists of all ages, levels and backgrounds, with novices trading licks and joining jams with some of the most talented players in the business.

Scheduled to appear are such marquee names as Larry Campbell (who has collaborated with everyone from Levon Helm to Bob Dylan to Roseanne Cash), Patti Smith guitarist Lenny Kaye, Wilco’s Nels Cline and Vernon Reid of Living Colour.

The centerpiece of the event will be a “mass jam” led by musical director Mark Stewart and the aforementioned celebrity guests. Guitar-slinging attendees will have the chance to download and practice the tunes prior to the show. Oh, and cocktails and beer will be served as well.

In addition to the jam session, Guitar Mash will be hosting a silent auction featuring gear and memorabilia from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joe Satriani, Death Cab for Cutie and The Edge, among others.

According to the Guitar Mash website, “a portion of the proceeds from the November 11th concert and jam will underwrite scholarships for Rock the House, the signature band program of Church Street School for Music and Art. Twenty years after its founding, Church Street School remains the only non-profit school for the arts in Lower Manhattan, staunchly devoted to cultivating each individual’s artistic voice.”
