Examiner, Album Review >>
I've been a fan of Cajun and zydeco music ever since a friend of mine turned me on to the styles. With a name like Lost Bayou Ramblers, it's not surprising that you hear a lot of fiddle, squeezebox, and Creole French. But Lost Bayou Ramblers isn't your typical Cajun band...and not just because it has Scarlett Johansson as a guest vocalist. (No, I had no idea she sang either.) There is a lot of fuzz in the guitar, which you don't ordinarily hear in Cajun music.
And speaking of Cajun music that is out of the ordinary, just listen to "Carolina Blues." This sounds like what would happen if a Cajun band collaborated with Cowboy Mouth. Mammoth Waltz not only immerses you in sound, but it is also a great example of why Louisiana music is so great. It is just good-time music. It is hard to sit still or be sad when you listen to this kind of music. If you could use some good-time music in your life, pick up this album. Coteau Guidry Video: Coteau Guidry
