Three Mexican sirens—alt-rocker Ely Guerra, folk songstress Eugenia León, and world music maven Tania Libertad—pay homage in an unforgettable musical evening to the beloved Mexican popular singer Chavela Vargas, who passed away in August at the ripe age of 93.
The late Chavela Vargas was the queen of Mexican popular song. Three female vocalists from Mexico, whose own fame circles the globe in a diverse range of genres, will unite to pay homage to this incredible music legend. Monterrey-born alt-rocker Ely Guerra, whom The New York Times calls the “Spanish-language P.J. Harvey,” sings a fusion of rock, electronica and emotive Mexican pop. Eugenia León, a peoples’ poet whose 25 albums span genres like tango, bolero, norteña, Brazilian, and ranchera music, has performed legendary concerts around the world and introduced Mexican audiences to the richness of Mexican and international music through her television and radio programs. And Latin Grammy award-winning world music legend Tania Libertad, born in Peru but based in Mexico since 1980, has recorded 38 albums and performed in the world’s great music halls– but never lost touch with the authenticity, passion, and commitment to the struggles and ideals of the human spirit that has made her beloved in Mexico and internationally.
