The singer will play the legendary musician's love interest on stage.

Singer Michelle Williams, already back in the news thanks to the much-discussed Destiny's Child reunion, has another project on her plate. It involves musical theater — and her bandmate Beyoncé's husband.

Jay-Z is a producer of the hit musical Fela!, and Williams is due to join the cast of the show's national tour for its Washington run Jan. 29-Feb. 10. Williams, who is cast as Sandra Isadore, an activist who becomes musician Fela Kuti's love interest, will remain with the production for dates in Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, Los Angeles and other cities. Dates are scheduled through a stint in Oakland June 5-9.

In a statement, Williams said: "This musical journey is one that I've wanted to be on since seeing it on stage in 2008. The sounds, the passion and the politics of Fela Kuti have long intrigued me and speak to my heart. I am simply honored."
