In his first U.S. appearance in more than a decade, Iraqi oud virtuoso Naseer Shamma comes to The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium. One of Iraq's leading cultural icons, Shamma takes a virtuosic approach to the oud (an Arab lute) that fuses Turkish techniques with traditional Iraqi maqam music. For this concert, he'll share the stage with his Al-Oyoun Ensemble -- a group of seven musicians from Cairo that performs a contemporary style Shamma has dubbed "Arab chamber music."
