Tonight at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (545 7th Street, SE) join other Hill photography buffs for an Organizational Meeting of the Capitol Hill Photography Club from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The meeting is to discuss plans to form and organize a local photography club centrally located on the Hill to have fun, learn, grow and stretch your creativity as a photographer. Friday night the Atlas is featuring two concerts. At 8pm the Hungarian Roma band Parno Grazt brings their exuberant music followed up at 10pm by Banda Magda. Banda Magda features a Greek-born accordionist who sings in French to a Latin beat. Each ticket is $10 in advance or $15 at the door. atlasarts.org Over at the Hill Center their Friday night flick series continues with the fabulous Peter Sellars film Being There. The 1979 film is included in Mike Canning’s book Hollywood on the Potomac. Canning will introduce the film and lead a Q&A after the film. Books will be available for sale. A biting political satire, Being There is about a sheltered, supremely naive man accidentally falls into becoming a close adviser to the President as well as a national sage. The screening begins at 7pm and is free. You can register here. Christ Church will host a buffet-style spaghetti dinner to benefit the employees and others impacted by the June 5 fire at 1115 Pennsylvania Avenue SE, including Frager’s Hardware and five neighboring businesses. The dinner, in the Parish Hall at 620 G Street SE, will feature Momma Sousa’s famous sauce, salad, bread, wine, and dessert. The Capitol Hillbillies will provide lively musical entertainment. All donations will go to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation as administrator of the Frager’s Fund. This week they are working with one of the mini deities of the genre, Polyface Farms. The farm and its charismatic farmer Joel Salatin, reached national fame after being featured first in Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dilemma and then the film Food Inc. With only 18 seats, guests at the intimate dinner will have the opportunity to meet the chef and a representative from Polyface farms firsthand as they discuss the journey behind the meal. The ticket price includes a pre-dinner meet and greet with Chef Hutter and guests from Polyface Farms, a glass of sparkling wine, and, of course, the four-course dinner with wine pairings selected by Beverage Director Tim Hays. By the time you leave the workshop, you will be prepared to participate in a house exchange.
