The Roanoke Times, Concert Pick/Preview >>
I meant to have a podcast today with Magda Giannakou, of Banda Magda. But I could not get my act together and missed my opportunity to talk to this refreshingly different performer, who plays two Jazz Club sets at Jefferson Center on Friday. Anyway, I’ll post video below.
Giannakou has a busy weekend, not the least of which includes a performance on the World Cafe show, in Philadelphia, with Snarky Puppy’s Michael League and Roanoke’s Bukuru Celestin.
But first, she arrives in Roanoke today to do an artist residency at Jefferson Center. She will write and record a song with the help of local, home-schooled students ages 6-8. That is happening at the Music Lab.
On Friday, she will do a workshop with Music Lab students at 4 p.m. Then she’ll play her two sets. The first one is sold out. Call 245-2550 to find out if tickets remain for the 9 p.m. set.
Now for that video. Here, Giannakou performs “Amour T’es La” with Snarky Puppy at Jefferson Center, for the Family Dinner sessions. - See more at: http://blogs.roanoke.com/cutnscratch/2013/09/magda-giannakou-a-busy-on-friday-in-roanoke/#sthash.KQfEnbJQ.dpuf
