“Festival au Desert: Caravan for Peace,” a traveling edition of the award-winning Malian celebration of music, art and life in the face of political upheaval, will make a stop at Freedom Square in Troy with a free all-ages show presented by the Sanctuary for Independent Media.

Set for 5:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, the concert will feature Tartit/Imharhan, a Tuareg group that morphs from traditional into electric and features Saharan nomadic refugees from the Timbuktu region; and Mamadou Kelly, a Malian blues master who’s played with the legendary Ali Farka Touré.

Bring blankets and chairs. Freedom Square is located at 39 5th Ave, where 5th and 6th avenues meet at 101st Street; rain venue is next door at the Sanctuary, 3361 6th Ave.
