By Ryan B. Patrick

Sheela Bringi's latest is vibrant in its lyricism, spiritual in its composition and meditative in its presentation. Bringi's grounding in elements of jazz and Indian classical music manifests itself in a manner she describes as "accessing a place of mystery and divinity." As an Indian-American, her continued collaboration with Atlanta-born African-American songwriter/trumpeter Clinton Patterson brings forth a sonically pleasing, subtle mix of American South and South Asian musical sensibilities.

As a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist (harp, bansuri flute, harmonium), Bringi is able to delicately weave various musical strands into a sound all its own. Fresh yet familiar — standouts include "Sri Krishna," "Moonrise Divination" and "Peacock" featuring Patterson — it would be interesting to see Bringi take her sound to its most daring, but for now, this full-length solo debut sets the stage for further experimentation to come.
