Rhapsody, SXSW Pick: Kumbia Queers >>

The indie rockers usually get the lion's share of attention at SXSW, Austin's annual gathering of bands, industry folks, critics and tastemakers (and fans, of course!). But don't get lost in all those thick hipster beards and ironic '80s sunglasses. Truth is, SXSW is actually a pretty wide-ranging smorgasbord of sound, and one of the most interesting and under-discussed trends is the number of really awesome Latin and international music acts that play the fest. This year's participants include Saharan desert blues phenom Tinariwen, Chilean hip-hop artist Ana Tijoux, tropipunk/alt-cumbia outfit Kumbia Queers, beatmaker-turned-Colombian-music-devotee (and resident of Bogota!) Quantic, and jazz-hued global pop outfit TriBeCaStan -- and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Discover your new favorite band with our roundup of SXSW's international offerings!
